The sleepy St Thomas district at Fisherpond #2 was this morning plunged into mourning after one of its own died under what one resident termed “the most brutal of circumstances”.
Fifty-three-year old Moreta Doreen Forde’s body was discovered at her home by neighbours in the early hours of this morning. This followed a fire at the house, which Barbados TODAY understands is the family home.
“I was asleep and I heard a loud explosion. That jumped me. That was close to 2:30 or 3 o’ clock, and I looked outside my window and all I was seeing was this smoke in the
air,” one neighbour said. “Then I heard somebody shouting it is Moreta’s house burning. I rushed and put on some clothes and came up the hill to see this.”
Another visibly shaken man recounted that when he arrived on the scene the house was filled with smoke, and some of the residents, in an attempting to save Forde, broke the glass door to the home and entered.
Finding the woman on the floor, they hurriedly brought her out.
“But she wasn’t moving,” the man said. “They thought that she was just unconscious. Then somebody says, ‘Wha’ is all this blood?’ Then we realized that her throat was cut.”
Police public relations officer Inspector David Welch, in a statement, said the police were treating the death as unnatural.
Forde was a employee of LIME Barbados, and at their two main offices in Wildey and Government Hill, St Michael, the company’s flag was being flown at half-mast. (RG)
